Does my employer have the right to ask one of my coworkers to log into facebook to view my profile?
To add: My facebook is set to private - only friends can view

Also, while this person was logged on, he printed out my status and put it in my file. Does he have any "legal" right to do this? Or is this invasion of privacy? Please advise.

Thank you.

This is not considered an invasion of privacy. Facebook is considered a public domain, even if you have it set to private. Your employer has every right to ask the person to log in and show them. The person has every right to refuse and they have the right to face the consequences.

people lose their jobs all the time for the things they put on facebook or myspace.

be advised, "set to private" does not mean it is private.

How can it be an invasion of privacy?? You facebook profile is there in PUBLIC. Anyone can look at it. If you don't want people to see things about you on your facebook profile that you don't want them to see. DON'T PUT IT ON YOUR FACEBOOK!

rude, but not illegal.. though he should do it himself.. and you can stop him from viewing if he is not a 'friend' of yours on there..

people have been fired and not hired for jobs because of what they have on facebook.

You'd be amazed how many employers are doing this... Even if your profile is set to "private" its still on a PUBLIC domain.... There is no invasion of privacy-- its perfectly legal.

I cant say with legal certainty, but no its public, not a private issue like medical records etc. First thing I learned in College was watch what you post on line, it can come back to haunt you. Most employers do look you up before hiring.
