Need helping taking internet crisis into my own hands?
Okay so about a year ago I moved and we got at&t. We are supposed to be getting at least 6mbps but I can never get above 2mbps. My ping is always over 90 and according to pingtest I have 88% packetloss but that's not always accurate, even though I notice this since I have a huge disadvantage in online video games.

Whenever I try playing Xbox, watching netflix, or listening to pandora my dsl connection goes down constantly. I have to keep a tab open with my modem page up to try and reconnect all the time just to get the error that my line is down.

I have been dealing with this for almost a year straight. The reason for this is at&t installed our line wrong and this has been confirmed by them surprisingly. I have spent ALOT of time trying to make my connection the best it can be but nothing I can do can fix it with this line error. Another contributing factor would be that the modem we have connected is a speed-stream 4100 first used almost 8 years ago.

I am only 16 and cannot convince my parents to do anything about this. My mom says she experiences almost no problem with the internet which isn't surprising since she only uses it for about 10 minutes a day to check her email so she says its not a concern to her.

I'm surprised she even knows about this line error with how much she doesn't care but she does and tells me that At&t wants 100 bucks to come out and fix it, which she refuses to pay. I would be happy to pay it but I unfortunately have no money at the moment. I told her if she would even call at&t and threaten to change isp's they would at-least send us a new modem but she won't do that either.

I feel like I'm just ranting on and complaining so I'm just going to get down to the point. If the internet always works for her how can I make it so it stops working for her at certain times of the day for certain duration's. I want her to start experiencing this issue, and if she says anything about it I will just agree and say something along then lines of "yeah the internet doesn't even work anymore you have to get this fixed" hopefully this will get her to or maybe even let me call them since I was told not to try and take this into my own hands.

I have a net-gear wnr2000v3 with netgear genie but it doesn't have the option to make only the computer she uses stop working, Does anyone know a way I can get it so the internet on only that computer which would be the computer downstairs to stop working while on mine upstairs still does? Even such as a program or just a trick it doesn't matter. Also if you have some tips on getting this plan to further succeed that would be appreciated. And to anyone who thinks this is wrong or mean to do I'm sorry but I could care less because this is one of the most frustrating problems to deal with.

Thanks.

You need to get a part-time job to earn the money to fix this. The first thing I'd recommend is buying a bare-bones (no wireless) dsl modem at a retail store (not an at&t branded modem). Then set it up so your router takes care the dialer/logging in.
