Why are some people really bad at texting?

I understand forgetting that people are busy or maybe the just forgot to reply, but the phone is nice enough to send you a notification. A notification that says "Hey, you see that big '1' over the icon, yeah that means somebody just sent you a message. So you might wanna get to it." I just don't get how people constantly can't get it right, multiple times. And it's not even just one person, so many people are so bad at it its not even funny.

you know that you can read the text message and then not respond right
and they are in no way obligated to respond as soon as they see the message

Txting is in the past, if you want to get to people, you have to use twitter or instagram.
