Ridiculously slow internet?

I finally got my gaming computer back after weeks of technical mishaps trying to upgrade everything. My friend helped me set it up and everything because I'm not great with computers but when I went to Nvidea's website to install the drivers(lost the CD), the download was really slow. I thought it would speed up after a while but it got even slower- 1 KB/s slow. Really?! It's only the new gaming PC because I just used speedtest on my laptop on the same network and it gave me 3.7 Mbps. I'm thinking it was the adapter(which used to give me as much as 1 MB/s on good days) because my friend said he wasn't sure which drivers to download from the CD but I'm not even sure if I would be able to access the internet had he downloaded the wrong one. The estimated download time is 62 hours! I don't have that much time to wait just to download the drivers for the graphics card. Can someone please help me find out what the problem is?

Sounds like you have dsl, time to move to an isp with cable. I went from 1.2 Mbps to 20 Mbps when I did that. I measure at speedtest.net.
