Google Adwords is not a method for optimize websites. its a process for quick response by visitors depend on your budget. SEO is long process for gain traffic on websites.

On the other hand seo is a free and longtime process to get your website on the top of the search engine ranking.

They are both very viable methods to get traffic to your site.

Adwords will certainly need money to get started though, but will get quicker results than SEO. If you have some funds then I'd suggest you start with Adwords - still make sure you learn how to do it properly though so you make the most of your money.

Then, when you are getting results from Adwords, look to either learn SEO or find a good SEO company that can get you some free traffic to add to your paid traffic.

If you are looking to optimize websites then SEO is your route because Google Adwords is not an optimization tool. It is true that both disciplines bring traffic to a site and both can put your site on the first page of search results.
Google Adwords is part of paid search, where as SEO is a free process but takes a longer time to build and optimize in order to appear in the first page of organic search.

In terms of learning, SEO is a very broad topic and would give you knowledge in all aspects of site optimization from link-building to site audits, whereas Google Adwords is a specific skill set within the topic of paid search advertising. So if I was to say which was easier it would be Adwords due to the much smaller subject matter.

Both have a steep learning curve because with adwords, you can lose a fortune very quickly and get nothing in return, with seo you have to factor in social signals. You can get an introduction to both for free using the resources I've listed below.
