How do i connect to the internet again?

I have a hp elitebook 2530p, runnning on windows xp operating system. I can sign into skype and make video calls which means the internet is ok but when I try to get on the internet threw internet explorer or google chrome it just says no internet connection. My wifi is running perfect, but I cannot surf the web. I also can not click on a internet browser of any icon to start from the desktop. Any suggestions?

Juan fails to realize that there are multiple ways to access the internet, not to mention the ability to use multiple machines and locations.

My thought would be a problem with firewall/security software. Look there.
