Why is Facebook popular to users?

Why has Facebook became extremely popular, more popular than MySpace?

Facebook is way more user friendly than myspace and has many more apps and things to do. And is GREAT for marketing.

I believe facebook is more popular for a few more reasons.....

-They have COOL games such as yoville, farmville, petville...etc.
-More people have Facebook's, so you have more friends, aka: more people to stalk.
-The notifications are more neatly set up.
-More parents believe Facebook is safer than Myspace so they only allow their children to make Facebooks.


I have both a myspace and a facebook, I prefer Facebook, I find it veryyy addicting.

2.Games like Poker and Varmville attract users even old people.
3.Live chat with your friends.
4.Easy to check updates.
5.Easy to share any thing.
6.Notebook/Birthday Alert etc
7.Usage of applications even you can customize your facebook page as your website.

But to answer your question seriously and independantly.

Look at like this..
There's a politics in the internet world that users are not aware of, I mean it started with Netscape Navigator, and to be honest it was better than internet explorer, then Microsoft made IE free with Windows ,Even though Netscape was better, it wasn't free, thus Microsoft Won the browser wars.

Now let's sidetrack for a bit,
Google is the worlds number 1 search engine, and everything is decided on the net, based on how google sees it, From a Website ranking point of view,
Googles Mission is to provide you with the most RELEVANT search result, for what you are looking for. It's that simple.

When Facebook Started, The concept was simple, To enable a medium by which people could communicate and come together over long distances. (To bring the world closer, In a manner of speaking). True.. My space also does this. But Facebook Does it more efficiently.
At least in Google's eyes it does, Therefore, Facebook Gets better rankings than My Space and suddenly, via word of mouth every kid in the school yard starts talking about it, (purely based on the fact that it's more popular).
On this fact alone, Facebook, gets more traffic to begin with , But after a while. Google re-evaluates Facebook and Myspace and then it says to itself, "well facebook has a hell of a lot more members than myspace, Therefore people must genuinely find value in the site" And so it give Facebook a higher search engine ranking.
Beyond this... Facebook has to retain it's members, so it's make little Apps like Uno and Farmville etc.. to keep people occupied and socialising, People get bored quickly.
and to be honest , once your there, and you've been there for a month or two, You don't even consider changing to MySpace Based on the fact that humans are creatures of habit, and once we develop a habit, we stick to it. Think about it, How often do you think to change a phone company, or a brand of cigarettes or a brand of beer.
That's Why facebook is so popular, ther must have been a time when facebook, and myspace were head to head, Facebook got better rankings in google (not by accident , my you) and the rest happened because of people's habitual nature.
