Are they allowed to download copyrighted files and software? and what happens if they do download?
@V8VANTAGE
Good answer but do you know exactly what happens to Sweden internet users if they download? your answer is a bit general...

Hi,

If files are copyrighted, then acquring them by means of personal gain without paying for them then it's illegal to do so for everyone.

Some countries however, have less systems in place to reduce piracy. The UK for instance now requires most ISP's to block these sites completly.

Also, some countries have different consquences should anyone be caught. Some have a "3 strike system" whilst others you get sued for the value of the "rights" of the copyrighted content, which is often many times more than what it would have cost to buy the content in the first place.

In short. It's illegal to download copyrighted material in Sweden.

Note that it doesn't matter where the person you are downloading from is located. E.g. UK law will apply if you download from a Swedish site while you are in UK. Swedish law only applies if you are in Sweden when you download.

A Swede who is cought downloading will most likely get sued and will have to pay large fines.

There are some exceptions. E.g. you are allowed to make copies of music that you have bought and share it with close friends.

You can watch hundreds of movies new & old ones on alot of the TV demand sites without having to subscribe to Netflix. Hulu has tons on it. If you are outside of US or you are outside UK you can get register and install a VPN, takes 2 minutes and will allow access to pretty much all you get off Netflix and loads more too.
