Can I own my own internet connection?
I have a DSL Lite internet connection.
The speed is ok but when more than one person plays it starts to slow down. I was wondering if I could own my own internet connection.

Thank you

Do you mean have your own connection separate from the other users that is on your connection? Then the answer is no.

As long as every one is going through the same router, your all tied into one connection, and will be effected by the other people on your network.

If you have control of the router, you can always be an ass and specify privileges for your local IP address, i.e. dedicate some bandwidth for yourself. But then, if you are asking for help here, you already do not know how to do that. So... no, not unless you pay for a separate connection for yourself. If you are complaining about speed, why do you have DSL Lite? Go get 7Mbps cable or something.

What your ISP does is they give you an IP address and allot x amount of bandwidth to you. You have several options to fix this, one, get out of "Lite" and get a high bandwidth connection from your ISP, or get a second IP address with its own bandwidth for you to horde for yourself.

Owning your own internet connection, like previously mentioned, is costly. You must purchase a real class C IP address, and you would have to host your own DNS, or pay someone to do it, and there are alot of things you woudl need to do so im guessing though that it would not be practical for your needs.

The answer is YES

The question should be a bit more specific. I mean you could have your own dedicated DSL line into the house All you need is to get another telephone line in and get another ISP then use that as your own and leave the rest on the other line.

Then you want to know if you really need static over dynamic. Thus pick your ISP that gives static IP addressing rather than dynamic.

And bingo you have what you wanted your own internet connection.

No it's not that expensive just the cost of getting a new phone line into your house and paying for your own ISP with a static IP address.

But if your talking about anything else such as as a T1 T2 dedicated backbone you have far too much money and send some to me (only joking).
