Cannot friend but can follow on FB?

I asked this before and the answer I received did not really address my question. I now see my question was deleted. It's very simple, really. I have an old friend who has decided for some reason not to join the group of like 150 mutual FB friends who all went to the same school together since we were little. She seems like she's doing great and I would love to friend her and keep in touch but she has the "friend" option deactivated. She's got me and some others following her though. But it is clear that SHE has the option to friend others if she wants to and she has friended a small handful of people. Why do people mostly do this? If it's because she only wants a very small group of people active in her life on FB for professional reasons, that I understand, and in that case I am happy to "like" her posts, and not be able to comment. But maybe she just wants to be disconnected from all those people because her early years were not happy ones. In that case I should un-follow and never bother her again. I sent her a message, but it went into some kind of spam filter FB has. What do you think?

Well it is depend on if she really know how to set up all those things, people just click and don't know what is really mean, (I just want to be kind) BUT its look like she set it up on purpose to keep away from her past for a present reason, only she knows why! But let me tell you something, the things that you "like " from her profile are only public post. So she just share whaterver she wants with her fallowers and doesn't mean she wants a true friendship on FB. What I suggest you is to let forget about, stay fallowing her just in case some day she decide to write you, but hide her feeds from your home page and will be like you don't have her because you will not see anything from her.
