Instagram for dummies?

I just installed instagram on my phone and cannot figure out exactly how to use it.

1. How do people get those pictures behind their profile picture if you're using a desktop computer to view the profile?

2. Do hastags have any use on instagram?

For your second question when you add hashtags people who search ex. #cute every picture that has that hashtag appears. So a lot of people will see your pictures
