I created a website and would like some traffic to it other than one a day and was wondering how exactly seo works.. Can anyone give me any tips on how to make my site ranked high in search engines using seo and explain search engine optimization in general??

a few things that may help

have a links page in you website and exchange links with other web sites, the more sites that link back to you the higher your relevance

make sure the urls in your site contain search words

e.g. if you are a photography site

Hi,

In very simple steps you need to do the following.

1. Make sure your website is indexed in Google and the other search engines. Do a Google search for the address.

2. Find maybe 5 keyword phrases that people are using to search for the things you are selling or writing about e.g. If you were selling Playstations, then you would find keywords that people search with such as "Buy Playstation PSP" etc.

3. Optimize your website for these keyword phrases, maybe hav a seperate page for each keyword phrase and write content using the keyword phrase.

4. Submit your website to the Free Directories online.

5. Start building links back from other websites/blogs/directories to your website and make sure that the links have an anchor text of the keyword phrases you are using.

6. Set up your own blog - use Blogger it's free and write some posts and link back to your website.

7. Write Articles and submit them to article directories always with a link back to your website (homepage or another page that you want to get ranked for).

There you go, that's a good start and if you are unsure of any step, look it up on the internet for an explanation.
