It really depends on how quickly you want results and how much you want to spend.

Quick results will usually be from Adwords while SEO takes longer to get going - I often use the analogy or Adwords being a speedboat while SEO is an oil tanker. The speedboat is quicker to start and easier to change direction but slows down quicker when you turn the power off (stop spending) while the tanker takes longer to get going and change direction but also takes longer to stop if you stop working on the site.

I know how competitive accountancy services is in the search engines, I work as an SEO manager for a firm that builds sites and provides content for accountants (with almost 1,000 sites in the UK) and every day I am looking to improve accountants sites.

One tip I would give you is focus on what people are searching for - professional services are often searched for in the visitors immediate location - so for example if you are based in Walthamstow in North East London make your phrases relate to the service you provide and Walthamstow, not North East London, East London, or even London. This could be why your visitors are not converting to sales for you - people will not travel miles to see an accountant or bookkeeper unless they offer a very specialised service (Audits of FTSE100 companies for example).

SEO optimizes your site in terms of keywords and articles at hand in your web pages. By optimizing these gears, search engines distinguish your site and put your site in primary spots on the search results. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO is the process of getting more traffic to your website by getting the site listed and ranked highly for queries relating to your product, market or business in the natural or organic search results.

Adwords, a different internet marketing alternative, is advertising that makes it possible for you to position your advertisement on the top or right hand side of the search results pages on Google and other affiliate websites. You can target internet user’s search queries and display your offers every time they look for it and you have a budget left. The visitor then clicks on your advertisement and it takes them straightforwardly to your site. The advertiser will on the other hand, pay each time somebody clicks on the advertisement, because AdWords runs on the pay per click system. With Adwords, your business listing can be displayed alongside the natural search results when people search for specific keyword phrases in Google. The search results displayed by Google Adwords are also called Pay Per Click (PPC) results because you shell out of every click made by a visitor on one of your ads. We’ve illustrated the difference between the natural or organic search results and the paid Adwords search results below...
