From day 1, when ARPANET was in place, and JANET was there, BBS systems were in place. There was an idea of netiquette at that point in time, so most discussions were in general cordial. However as time went on, and people who didn't care about netiquette got access to the BBS systems, this disapeared. When ARPANET became the Internet, there was no way, without massive moderation, that the discussions would stay polite. Trolling is the same as that loud guy/girl in the pub that is annoying everyone; you will never get rid of them, but you can go to a pub with a better landlord.

Yep, from Day One - Usenet newsgroups were full of them. As Ian says, they were "trained" on BBS systems (which, for many years, weren't connected in any kind of network).

The internet isn't FOR porn... it's simply that porn financed its growth.
