just bought Acer aspire 4736z, (windows xp) how can i configure the internet connection?

i have a working internet connection for my desktop pc, just trying to connect to the net using the laptop. i just need to configure the net connection, i dont know how

Hi there,
Click <Start>
Click <Control Panel>
Select "Network and Internet connections"
Select "Set up or change your internet connection"
That opens up the "internet properties" dialog box where you click the "Set up" tab.
When the internet connection wizard opens up just follow the instructions.
You will need to know the information you ISP gave you to connect.
Your computer needs to be told which and how to connect to the internet.
