Why are websites not treated like property?
Why do you have to rent a domain from some company like go-daddy as opposed to outright buying it, and why do those companies even have the authority to rent out domains?

These companies are authorized by the W3C, which is a nonprofit that monitors the sale and purchase of web domains.
