How do you start a conversation over fb?

My mind is blank when I want to talk to a girl over fb, even if I "hi" to her, and she "hi"s back. I dont know what I can do to keep the conversation going. We haven't seen each other but she did ask me who am I before lol

Well if you DO know her spark a conversation of interest, women love talking about themselves to start talking about something to get the ball rolling! 'Hey I saw you were a breaking benjamin fan so i thought I'd add you for a chat because most of my friends dont like them haha! Sorry for the randomness =)'
Girls tend to like things like that. If she's a bit more upper class then maybe a different approach should be tried, but otherwise ask yourself why you added her in the first place and just talk to her. She's over facebook! She cant bite! Whats the worst that could happen?

A: Hi.
B: Hi, how ru?
A: Good thanks, u?
B: Not bad. What you been up to/

And then so on...

This is how it SHOULDN'T go:
