Why can't I log into Steam?

Why can't I log into Steam?
I know my username and password, but when I type them in, it says I'm having problems connecting to the internet. This is not true, since I can still use Google Chrome. I can't log in in from the client, but I can from a browser. Why? After that, it kept saying "Steam is having trouble connecting to Steam servers.

Please help!

Well the problem is obviously with the steam program so I know this might sound like a cliché but just try uninstalling and installing it again.
