Is having multiple domains bad for SEO?
For example, http://www.photographermytown.com which is indexed on Google. Then I buy a few more to forward to this domain. I'm wondering if Google would see the multiple domains as duplicate content and lower my ranking.

Would I have better SEO value to have a webpage under each domain with a link to the main website?

Well it all depends on what your trying to do, if your product or service can have a review site simply make a ton of review sites, and yes link them to your Main site that will add link juice and will get you higher ranking. As far as forwarding that is not hurting your SEO nor is it helping the reason for this is Google does not index a forwarded page in there search engines so your forwarded pages can only be found on ads or other sites which have links to them. If i were you i would go with the review technique flood the market with as much websites you can about how awesome your business is and "Click Here Now" to check us out buttons everywhere. Hope this helps. I wish you the best Smile

I believe as long as you give the secondary domain names a 301 redirect to the main site there will be no problem, any backlink benefit will be passed on to the main site as well.

If you did duplicate content on multiple sites, the canonical tag can inform the search engines as to the 'source' location.

If you have keyword rich domains, this will help a lot to improve your organic ranking in google. Always use 301 redirect (means permanent). So Google will pass all link juice to your main site.

Many web-masters in USA and Uk following this type of mechanism to drive traffic to the main website and this is as per Search engine guidelines.

Link building all the domains and redirect them to the official Url is the best idea in this cut through competitive age.

You need to make sure they are standing in different domains and with different content , should be the mirror of each other.

If you're going to do this, make sure you use a 301 redirect. But overall, it's better just to have one.
