Broadband Internet access, often shortened to just "broadband", is a high data rate connection to the internet— typically contrasted with dial-up access using a 56k modem.

Dial-up modems are limited to a bitrate of less than 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) and require the dedicated use of a telephone line — whereas broadband technologies supply more than double this rate and generally without disrupting telephone use.

Broadband is basically a High Speed Internet Connectivity exceeding the minimum speed of 256 Kbps. it can be facilitated by using a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connection with conventional Copper Pair Line by BSNL, MTNL or even AIRTEL. or we can use CDMA (HSDPA) for wireless broadband connection. and the latest addition is 3G used for data speeds upto 7.2 MBPS but with a high contention ratio meaning lesser practical achievable speeds. Now in simple words Yes Broadband and DSL is basically the same thing infact, anything with internet speed higher then 256 KBPS can legally be claimed as Broadband in INDIA. if you want a DSL connection you need a Wire line connection to your place so first confirm that its feasible, then check the speeds provided on both services. hope this info. is enough if you want any more explanation, mail me. Broadband is usually a connection utilizing ethernet cables and or a cable modem to connect to your pc. A DSL (a.k.a. Digital Subscriber Line) is a family of connection types that utilize a telephone line or lease line.

Either way you get internet, but they are two different methods to getting you that connection.

DSL is an internet connection that you can get from your local telephone service provider. It runs over your pair of copper telephone wires. It can provide speeds of as low as 256Kbps to as high as 5Mbps depending on the provider and location and your choice.
Broadband is usually a faster internet connection reaching speeds of more than 5Mbps. It runs via a coaxial cable the same wires used in your cable tv connection. Broadband is a lot faster but you can experience slowdowns during high bandwidth usage in your location.
DSL may be slower than broadband but its speed is guaranteed to be the stable. Its speed depends on the proximity of your place from the service provider where your are connected.
