China SEO - Baidu and local China SE optimization?

Although there are vast resources for Google/Yahoo SEO there is little information available in English for optimizing a site for Baidu and the local Chinese search engines.
I would like to know as much as possible, links or personal experiences, about SEO for the Chinese SE market, specifically Baidu. References to Chinese sites will be highly appreciated as well.

What I did notice missing is the application of the social structure. Getting backlinks (especially one-way) from the "upper caste sites" so to speak should play a factor in the rankings, and so should the "who you know" factor.

I would suggest trying to hobnob (be friendly with, talk to, chat with, communicate) with the "elite" in the baidu chain - at least online - and see if you can get any help there.

Find out what it takes to serve the Chinese people the best according to the Government, and use those standards as a guideline.

Other than that, I think you did a really good job on your blog post.
