I have a minecraft server question?

Hi. I am new to minecraft, so I am still learning things. I originally bought it so I could play with my friend, but I am having a hard time setting up a server. I think I read that the only way to set one up is to have a router? Me and my friend both use desktops without wifi. Is there no way to set up a server for us then? Single player gets boring.. I really bought it to play with her.

You need some type of internet connection, be it wifi or ethernet, to play Minecraft on someone else's server or to host a server that others can connect to.
P.S.: You have a desktop computer and a copy of Minecraft but no internet connection? That makes no sense. How did you even get Minecraft in the first place?
