Having trouble using Facebook with privacy issues. Please help.?
In my Facebook account, I was not able to see other people's activity log such as new friends, comments on pages, likes, etc. For this I assumed other people can't see my activity either.

Today, I just noticed my mom's Facebook, where there is a window on top right listing all the activities by other people. It shows who became my friends and when, what page and posts I liked, my comments on other people's posts, etc. I wasn't able to figure out why this same window does not show on my Facebook account. Now I am so scared that my mom and other people were seeing what I do on Facebook. How do I prevent this?

I always have problems controlling my privacy in Facebook. Today, I noticed that my last workplace disappeared for unknown reason. I added it back and noticed that it showed up on other people's FB that I added a new work. It was embarrassing because it was my old workplace like years ago.

I don't mind people seeing my stuff if they want by their own, but I am really embarrassed if things about me pops up on other people's FB making them aware that I just liked something, or someone just became my friend, etc. I searched through privacy option and didn't see any option to prevent it.

If anyone know any tactics of using FB wisely, or know of anything I should avoid doing because people know about it right away, please let me know. I will appreciate any help.

And just to let you know that deactivating FB account is not my option.

What you described in your second paragraph, seeing your mom's account from her view is called "ticker".
Some people don't get it, some get it but later replace by "trending", some hide it.

Regarding privacy, read this
https://www.facebook.com/help/search/?query=privacy

The key is, you can control your post in your own Timeline by setting the audience as you determined.
Second, if you post or likes/comments on others, such as in friends Timeline, in Group, in Page, you'll govern by their rules.
The rules is simple:
• Page & Open Group is by nature is Public, means everyone can see it.
• Close & Secret Group only can be read by members.
• posting friend Timeline is determined by them that they set in their Timeline and Tagging Settings.
• always pay attention of the audience setting of the post; to know the exact who allow to see that post (including the likes/comments on it), put your cursor/mouse on the audience setting icon; in general globe icon means Public, 2 heads silhouette is Friends, etc.

One more caution, if you join an Open Group, your post, likes/comments might show in your friends News Feed, this thing is inevitable.

Other can always find out what open & close group you're member of.
