It is banned by Erdogan but there are many ways to get around the ban. If you use a VPN, it should work.

Currently we're in a state of chaos and rule of law is very much in question. Corrupt lying machines control traditional media outlets but not the internet, which pisses them off and let people learn about their hundreds of wrongdoings. So one night, prime-corrupt says : turns off the Twitter, and now it is blocked.

Yes, Twitter is banned in Turkey.
Prime Minister Erdogan told Twitter was not caring about the cases about some users. So, he banned Twitter with the approval of President Abdullah Gul. Actually, there were many ways to solve this problem. Twitter ban is the result of a fear. Lately, some users in Twitter started to serve private wiretappings of Erdogan which showed his malpractices and lawlessness. The government was afraid of their crimes to be evinced. So they banned Twitter. However, people downloaded apps that provide access to the banned websites. The number of Turkish Twitter users increased almost 20% after the restriction. Even the ministers and some mayors kept tweeting by changing their DNS settings or using VPN Hotspot Shield. New tapes are still being served. So, this ban already failed. |

It wasn't ErdoÄŸan who banned it in Turkey. Twitter blocked in Turkey for ignoring court orders. If twitter doesn't recongize Turkish courts, it has no place in Turkey either. Twitter obeys the court orders of the US, UK, Russia, Germany, France and others, but thinks it can ignore Turkish authorities.
When it's the UK, they can ban twitter: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/cutline/brit...16849.html http://www.zdnet.com/blog/london/england...er-ban/704 France can carry out a different kind of ban too: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...radio.html @You souldn't believe a single word the user Permafrost says. The government doesn't control the media at all. Most of the newsources insult him day and night, and then call him a dictator. If he was a dictator, could they insult and accuse the PM so easily? You can read Today's Zaman and Hürriyet Daily News to see for yourself. |

Any network that allows 100% freedom speech in Turkey and zero% government control over it will sooner or later bite the bullet there because soon rather than later Turks will start speaking out against government on it. And that is a big no - no..

All social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook etc are to be tampered with in Turkey for the foreseeable future. Most expats and Turkish now switch a VPN on before surfing to stop the heavy censorship that goes on and off constantly. See http://www.netprivacy.me to install and browse uncensored in future.
