Local Business or Place
The "Local Business or Place" page type is ideal for a business with a physical location that customers visit in person. For example, you can create a local page for a restaurant, retail business or hotel. You can also use this page type for a public place, such as a library or school. Depending on the category you choose, Facebook customizes the fields that are available on your page's Info tab.

Company, Organization, or Institution
The generic page type "Company, Organization, or Institution" works for any business or organization. Before selecting this page type for a business, however, look at the other types to see if there is a better fit. For example, the "Local Business or Place" or "Brand or Product" page type might be more suitable. Nonprofit organizations should choose this type, selecting "Non-profit Organization" from the "Choose a Category" drop-down list.

Brand or Product
Businesses that want to develop a Facebook fan base for a brand or product -- rather than for the business itself -- should select the "Brand or Product" page type. This option works well for a physical product or product line such as clothing, cars or food items. You can also create a Facebook page for a website or software program.

Artist, Band, or Public Figure
The "Artist, Band, or Public Figure" page type is for an individual or group of people such as an artist, band or public figure. It also works well for authors, chefs, speakers, journalists, news personalities, politicians or anyone whose brand is their own name.

Entertainment
An "Entertainment" page enables you to create a Facebook presence for a specific album, book or TV show. This page type differs from the "Artist, Band, or Public Figure" page type in that you create a page for a specific product or event rather than for an individual or group. For example, you could create a page for a band and additional pages for each of its albums.

Cause or Community
If you don't have the authorization to create a Facebook page for a business or organization, you can create a page using the "Cause or Community" page type. This type works well if you want to develop a Facebook community for a topic unrelated to a specific business, such as Italian cooking, ballroom dancing or bungee jumping. You can also create a page for a cause you support. To create a page for a registered nonprofit, however, select "Company, Organization, or Institution" instead of "Cause or Community."
