Starting a Social Networking Website? Tips?

Hello, I have a good idea for a social networking site, it's unique actually so i wont reveal it just yet, ha, but my thing is, why would anyone sign up in the first place if theres noone on it? Why would people start, how do i get people to start joining it once i create it? Thanks! Any other tips ill take but that is my main question.

not sure, but i had to give this same tip to someone else who was doing the same thing.

whatever unique function your site is going to offer, consider if it can just be an application implemented in facebook.

if so, get the patent for it.

that's not saying only make it in facebook, but just patent it to make sure you don't get ripped later.
