If possible try to connect using an Ethernet cable (wired connection). Wireless connections are subject to more degradation. If not possible, then try to get your computer as close to the wireless router as possible.
If the above doesn't help, then it's time to contact your Internet provider and ask for a speed upgrade. There are not many options here. Your computer specs do not help much when it comes to connection performance.

2 primary reasons. You're either using a wireless home network with a weak signal or you have crappy internet service. Run a speed test here and post the details.

Edit: If kent knew what he was talking about, he would KNOW data travels through a conductor far better than it does air. A poor wireless network connection WILL rob you of bandwidth. Your home network struggles to receive and transmit packets and your internet connection sits there waiting for data when it should be sending and receiving it.. Your thruput gets exponentially worse the weaker the signal is.

Theres no other LEGITIMATE way to speed up an internet connection other than upgrading your plan through your service provider. All these myths about using different cables and whatnot is rubbish. Theres nothing you can do other than what i mentioned.
