IP address does not load?

After changed my internet provider to UPC Cablecom, internet connection drops (with Toshiba Laptop, Window Vista). My laptop cannot detect the modem but if I re-start it automatically connects then drops. Wanted to see the IP address: 192.168.0.1 for the connection BUT does not load, instead Google appears and offers other sites with 192.168.0.1. Pls advise what to do. Thanks

First, connect to the system with ethernet not wifi to attempt router changes!

Second, what makes you sure 192.168.0.1 is your modem/routers address? Click the network settings for the correct gateway address.

Third, some cable companies block user access to the equipment they supply. In which case you have to let them make changes.
