why do i lose connection constantly to mc servers?

I have a new pc (nothing special) it runs mc decently but when i try to join servers im really laggy and disconnect a lot. My internet speed test says 3.9 mbps dl speed and 1.24 mbps upload speed. I feel like this just fine but i keep disconnecting every ten minutes or so. Whats wrong here?

3.9 MBPS isn't good, that is probably the reason for the lag especially if someone else in your house is using the internet at the same time. I have a 30 mbps Download speed and have no lag, also lag in minecraft is usually because of the ping (Your minecraft connecting to the server) so that may also be the problem if the server is really far away. (Try connecting to servers in your country to prevent lag)

While you file transfer (download/upload) speeds may be quite fast, there is another factor for things like multiplayer gaming. It's called ping. It's the speed at which your Internet can send data back and forth to any kind of web server, game server, etc. My Internet has 30 MBs download speeds and 13 MBs upload speeds, but a ping of around 750ms. Go to http://www.pingtest.com and check your ping. If it's above 1,000ms or close to that, that could be the problem. Otherwise it could just be the server, or maybe your Java setup. Make sure you have the latest version of Java.
