Adding links will help my SEO?
I run a plumbing service company in NW Arkansas. Will adding links on my site to high traffic local sites generate a better SEO?

Not really since it will be you giving the other site some brownie points for linking to them. If they are the ones linking to you, then you can actually see an improvement in your pagerank and hopefully your search results ranking

But be VERY CAREFUL -- link ONLY to sites related to you. Google will not want to see your plumbing service site linking to a mortgage company just because it is a local company in your area. Google in particular has penalized sites linking indiscriminately to sites outside their topic area. Limit your links to sites with similar and related topics

Your gauge should always be: will adding these links be beneficial to my users? SEO should only be second consideration

No mate, its the other way round. They need to link to you. Adding their link is easy and hence pointless, everyone would do that and hence rankings would be pointless.

Your next question will probably. How do I do that?
This is the hard part. A lot of sites eg yahoo answers, forums etc you can do it for free. but try and keep it relevant. Ie plumbing in the plumbing section. Answer questions relating to plumbing and then add your link as the source. It does not have to be in your region.

You can then try directories that are online, again free.
link exchange with these companies is tough cos you wont have anything to offer. Since you dont have traffic.

It's called "External 1 way links" you can make them or buy them.

Google: SEO friendly 1 way linking service

The place I use is called "submit edge"

But before you go and start tying to get some ranking, do you know what keywords bring in the biz?

Run an Adwords campaign first before you do anything. If you don't know what turns into money, you'll never know what to optimize for, if you don't know what to optimize for you'll spend time, energy and money on zilch.

Free Method: Write articles, submit them to directories (http://www.Ezinearticles.com) and make sure your anchor text in your bio is the keyword you want to be known on Google for.

But don't move at all without knowing what words mean cash for you.

If you think that those links will be helpful to your viewers, put them in. If you think they are valuable links, your readers will click on them and tell people that your a reliable source of information, increasing your web traffic and thus increasing your page ranking.

Bottom line, no, adding links to high traffic sites won't get you a higher page ranking. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't put valuable links onto your website.

No doubt adding link is actually out bound link, inbound links are more important. Inbound links that are related to your website theme and are also having good page rank and are regularly updated. By adding links of other sites with high traffic will not boost your ranking to that extent as would be if it was other way. If a high traffic website adds your link on its website then it would really help your website to gain page rank quickly and listing in SERP (Search Engine Ranking Positioning).

Google will not want to see your plumbing service site linking to a mortgage company just because it is a local company in your area. Google link popularity strategy has changed and google penalize sites linking to unrelated topics, also over doing link exchange with the same anchor text to promote your particular keyword may bring your site down.

Link popularity is part of SEO and SEO executives need to move according to search engine changing algorithm, no black hat technique else you will be caught.

Yes it will. You need to swap links for a better result.

Local advertising http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...TluWzYAJaa

You can do several things to increase traffic flow.
When making your own web site do some research on how to optimize your site so that you get a good ranking with a natural search. You do this by embedding smart key words.

1 )Key word tool by google https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
2) Keyword suggestion http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword...ns-google/
3) Keyword Typo Generator Tool

You need get your web address in as many locations as possible on the net. You do this by article submission, link swap and free classifieds.

Adding links will help your website but they have to be good quality links that are relevant to your site. You can purchase links but I really don't recommend it because google does its yearly purge of links and people that bought all these links login on day to find most of their links are gone. I would do some article posting to some social sites and place a link back to your website. It may take some time but it is worth it. Also be careful when you link to some free sites because they my place a "nofollow" tag on your link so that your website doesn't absorb some of their page rank.
