Should I go out with this guy? I'm really confused.?

So, my school has an anonymous twitter page where you comment about people in your school. I sent a comment about a guy in my grade saying I used to have a crush on him and I thought he was cute. The person who runs the page told him it was me who said it. He started messaging me on twitter and asked for my number. We've been texting for 2 or 3 weeks almost everyday. He's in my grade, we had a class together two years ago (we are seniors now) but we don't have any classes this year together so I literally NEVER see him at school. I don't even see him in the hallway. We have a million things in common and he wants to hang out next week. I don't know what to do. I've seen him twice from far away at school and he looked kind of cute but I haven't seen him close up. I don't want it to be awkward if he turns out to be weird when you actually talk to him in person plus it'd be weird because we've already talked so much through text. But it's like, we also have a lot in common that we've learned. What should I do? Have you ever been in this situation?
