Is it illegal to take pictures from facebook and say they are yours?
So I have a Facebook page and I upload edits of TV shows and movies and stuff. I put my page name on it. Anyway, someone came and saved all my pictures, cropped my name out, put them up on their FB and claimed that they made them. They're not claiming that they are those people (I'm pretty sure that's illegal) just that they made the photos. Well anyway I contacted the person and they said sorry and gave me credit for all the pictures, but anyway, I was wondering if this is legal?? Like, could someone get into any serious trouble for doing this?
Okay, but like what do you mean?? As in, getting-banned-from-facebook trouble or police-trouble?

I wouldn't say serious SERIOUS trouble, but yes, it's illegal.

Yes. It's plagiarism. If they're doing it for a school project,at least at my school they would get suspended if they don't give credit.

Unless you file a copyright or file some kind of intellectual property claim, taking them is not illegal nor against Facebook rules. And how would you take up a legal issue with someone who might live half way around the world? In a country with totally different laws?

Besides it being possibly immoral or "not very nice" people "borrow" stuff on the Internet everyday. But even large corporations have to defend their own copyrights, the police don't do it for them. If the other person had not agreed to give you credit or take them down, you could have complained to Facebook (who may or may not have responded) or you may have had to go to court to prove your ownership.

And just saying it is yours is not proof.
