So I just made a twitter and..?

I keep getting a (1) in my tab. Like on facebook this means I have a notification, what does this mean on twitter? and how do I see it?
and I dont have any messages, and no one new followed me

it just means someone you follow has tweeted something new and it has appeared on your homepage, you can easily see it by clicking were it says '1 new tweet'
it is also possible you have a direct message or a mention, you can read this by clicking along the top of your screen, if you have something there will be a blue circle underneath the symbol for mention, direct message or a new tweet
