Google SEO SERPS question?
How come if I use 2 different browsers I get a different number of search results?

For example term 1 (3 words) brings in 231,000 using Google Chrome and IE but only 196,000 results using Firefox.

Also,

Does Google display websites you have visited frequently at the top of the serps? I have a new website I have been working on, I usually view in Chrome to check it displays ok but I now find that site #1 in Google Chrome for this term.
That same website is on page 4 in IE and Firefox.

Thoughts?

I tried several google searches on explorer and firefox, good the identical number of results on each. I would guess google may have added some tweaks to chrome's search handling, if any does.

Are you accessing the same generic version of google search, I wonder if there might be some customization settings that differ on your 2 browsers. You might clear the google cookies and see if the differences persist.

I dont think that google could display two diffrent search results in two diffrent browsers after all the basic algorithm remains same and its only the display which is changed.
the SERPs get displayed according to total number of visits come from that website which has that particular search term.
So the more visits to a particular website which has search term will get displyed first. and then so on according to the visits in descending order.

Google has datacentres around the world with several in some countries and it is possible that each of these has a different set of results databases. Hence it might be the case that your browsers are looking at different sets of results.

As far as visiting frequently, there used to be a suggestion that this was the case and if you are signed in to Google with your google account you can "star" a result but the vast majority of web pages are on the top of the results for reasons other than the fact that you visit them frequently.
