How to find my B2B Target Market?
Hi There,

I run a video production business that creates low cost and highly engaging videography for businesses around my local area and the rest of the United Kingdom.

My target market is independent business owners of the ages 22-55, male and female, who are passionate about video marketing and know that it is the right way forward for their business to be successful.

I was just wondering if anybody had any tips, tactics or stories to share that can benefit me in targeting these people.

I go to networking events, advertise my services at events i am filming, and i am slowly but surely gaining an account on every kind of social media, you-tube etc so i have a huge online presence.

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Hey !

In the states, our Federal Government gives us
certain tools to help us do that very thing.

For example, the Government has a decimal code
for every kind of business under the sun.

Plumbers, Movie Studios, Tobacco shops and Upholstery
Cleaner all have a code.

Plus, you can purchase a list from aggressive list service
organizations. One of the most aggressive is ADOBE
BUSINESS SERVICES. The other, is DUN AND BRAD-
STREET.

In YOUR particular neighborhood, you have some nice
tools:

a: http://www.communicationmatters.org.uk

b: http://www.fca.org.uk/register

c: http://www.csa-uk.com/uk-members-list

ALSO, check with EBAY about a list of their
UK members.

Put those on your daily planner !!!

I'd suggest two activities
1: Take your list of current clients and run some analysis to identify more like them (that may be your target market (independent business owners of the ages 22-55, male and female, who are passionate about video marketing and know that it is the right way forward for their business to be successful) but if may not be and show some new "segments" (e.g. medium sized partnership business, aged 60), to target

2:Consider expanding your market - I think you have two really big restrictions in your current target market, being "independent business owners" and "passionate about video marketing".
It might be ALL your clients fit this "target", if so I would suggest that is because you are solely focusing on them rather than they are the best segment. (step one will confirm this)

The reason to expand is two fold:
There are many more businesses out there who could spend on video work than your small existing target market.
Most business people buy because they need to, not because they want to or are "passionate" about it. You might find a much larger market of buyers this way
