How does Facebook recommend pages to people?

Is it just random? And can you hide a page from somebody so they can't see it?

Usually when Facebook recommends a page to you, a lot of your friends are fans of those pages already. I don't think you can hide a page that you have became a fan of-- but you can remove the activity of when you do become a fan right away. Go to your profile and where it lists the page you have became a fan of that you don't want people to see, move your cursor to the right of the status and there is either a hide or remove button. Click that and no one will be able to see that activity of yours anymore.
