Internet connection is fine, But I cant open anything?

Well, my cousin is having this problem. Her internet connection is excellent, but she cant connect to AIM or the internet or anything.
She has a Gateway laptop, wireless connection, and windows XP

How do you know the internet connection is excellent, if you can't connect to anything? Simply seeing a green light on your modem isn't enough.

1. Restart the modems, routers, and switches. Even if they look like they're working fine.

2. If possible, connect physically to the network with an ethernet cable. If that works, you'll know it's your wireless setup. Check the wireless SSID, WEP key, and MAC filtering.

3. If it still doesn't work, disable all your firewalls. Yes, even the Windows Firewall, which requires you to reboot the computer after disabling to ensure it's truly off.

4. If it still doesn't work, look for malware by installing and running Malwarebytes. If you don't already have it, you'll need to download it from another machine.
