Help - I need internet connection help!?
Questions/Comments : We have a home Dell B130 lap-top
computer. We recently purchased my
daughter an Acer Vista (home edition)
lap-top computer. We only have one
Actiontec GT701 Modem for the internet
connection. What we have been doing is
sharing the internet connection box.
When we need it, we use our CAT5e cord.
When my Daughter needs it, we unplug
ours and then plug in the one that
connects into her lap-top. Just over
the past week, my daughters has stopped
displaying the web pages. It does show
that it is connected, but will not show
any of the web pages that we try to log
on to. I've checked per the suggested
help instructions and everything seems
to be set-up properly. Will my problem
be resloved if we purchase a router
rather than sharing the one line? Her computer will no longer connect. Her
computer does suggest upgrading, but I
can't even get to the internet to do
that. I've even taken it to a local
wireless cafe and it won't even connect. HELP!!!

Check firewall settings on the computer itself. They might be blocking the internet connection altogether and it would be the same with or without a wireless connection.

Also, I had a similar problem on a wireless connection with my Wii. Everything else connected to the internet just fine except for the game system. It kept saying there was no connection. So I upgraded the firmware for both the modem and the wireless router (you can get instructions from Qwest on how to update the modem, same for whatever company produces the router if you purchase one) and everything worked fine after that.
