what's the reason why FB got way more popular when there was Myspace back then?

i heard FB got popular among college students first but what's the reaon why it got so popular when there was Myspace back then?
why they just didin't use Myspace to keep in touch with their family and friends?
what's the difference?

A lot of ppl saw MySpace as being childish. Unfortunately fb is starting to turn into MySpace

It's the way they were set up. Myspace was hard to get around and it was confusing and bulky. Facebook was very simple and easy, so people had an easier time using it.

Facebook is simpler and easier for most people compared to myspace and when somethig is new people usually try it out and might like it better.

Difference is clear myspace, orkut and other social network sucks, but FB team has controlled it very well. they are updating it day by day, new features are added. Just every thing on facebook is much better than any other network. Now Google Plus is coming for compitition and I hope facebook will win this competition too.

Face book required a lot less work just pictures and grammar of spelling doesn't seem to matter.

Okay lol... Myspace was horrible! it was a very unsafe website, you basically added anyone and everyone and ya... it was just weird. Myspace had a lot of death problems, people would commit suicide due to cyber bullying. Facebook took that... and it made it better... Facebook got popular real fast because it took all of myspaces's problems and fixed em... Facebook is not really meant for meeting new people, its meant for keeping in contact with people you know. facebook > Myspace any day... I had it, still have it, hasn't been used in years.

Im not sure about why other people switched but i can tell you why i did
My space was becoming polluted with all this blinging your page crap
and it would sometimes take forever for a users page to load.
Fb doesnt allow for all that.
pple were forcing music , videos, slide shows, and very demanding backgrounds to load so it had a ton of data to load up upon visiting a users page.
