how can I brighten just a prt of a photo?
Just need to fix one photo so I don't want to buy software--the left side of the piuc is too dark but the right side is perfect--how can I brighten the left side only so there isn't an obvious seam.
it must be free or very cheap

You might want to try program GIMP. Available for linux and windows. Free and open source.
