There are kids starving in Africa, and your complaining that you can't use Twitter or Facebook ?

That's just shameful.

It's overrated. Keep in contact with your friends he old fashioned way. I have Facebook but hardly use it. I call my friends up and txt them. Best way to keep in touch.

Tell them that... social networking sites are always good to use as they bring many benefits... They allow you to socialise with friends and family that are distant. It lets you catch up with people that you aren't able to catch up with in person. It helps you be up to date with the world and the major events that are happening around you. It allows you to see through every detail and have more knowledge of others and their interests.

Oh and by the way, Facebook sucks - I'd recommend Twitter.

Have you ever asked them why? Most parents don't like their child having/visiting these websites because a lot of crazy people/pedophies are on there... but If you have your parents teach you about internet safety and to NEVER meet someone online or give them personal information like adress/phone number. Some stuff that people post on FB or twitter are pretty adult. Maybe try compromising with them. Not sure if FB has parental controls where they can monitor or block what you view or who can contact you. Maybe just let you contact people in your age range.

Well there is your answer in your own question.

You said that you live in China where FB and Twitter are prohibited, which means that anyone using these online applications are government rules. With this, it is very likely that the government might think maliciously of you in a way that could warrant you being monitored 24/7.

This in turn may in turn negatively affect opportunities that could come your way.

If your parents think of its this way, the may just be concerned about your future.

On hindsight though, are you of the appropriate age to have a facebook account? If I remember it right, there is an age limit allowed in using FB.

Maybe you should wait when you are at an age capable of standing to the consequence of your actions on your own before you go against the wishes of your parents... best of luck! :-)
