My computer "forgot" about my internet connection.?

When I had problems with my computer yesterday, I repeatedly had to reboot. When my computer just...froze every few 10 seconds, I rebooted again. This time around, my internet connection was gone. No icon, nothing in the connections folder. We are using a linksys, and the internet works just fine for our 2 other laptops. What's the problem here? I'll try to find the installation CD if I can...
Everything is connected. I tried disconnection/reconnecting with the power and every other cord. Internet is still lost on my desktop. Laptops still fine. What now? ...

Okay firstly, do you have a Cable Modem going into LinkSys Router and then the router going into your PC?

Alot of Internet Connections via Cable Modems (such as Virgin Media) can be set back up and will automatically find the settings for you.

probably spyware or some software compatibility error
reboot in safe mode
uninstall all suspicious programs
install all missing drivers
u can try restoring to some previous state too
