Internet Connection......please HELP!!!?
I am experiencing a slow internet connection on my DELL Latitude E5400 (Windows XP version 2002 service pack 3). I recently changed my modem and by router. When i was experienceing slow internet connection I thought it was my 10 year old router. so I got a EA2700 Linksys router which it supposed to boost speed and improve performance. BUT I KEEP HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! My mbps are constantly changing. Changing from 54mbps to 18mbps then up to 48mbps etc etc. WHAT I REALIZED IS THAT I AM HAVING THIS PROBLEM ONLY AT HOME! WHEN I AM IN SCHOOL MY MBPS SPEED IS 54 MBPS AND IT DOES NOT CHANGE! WHY???
Also, when I am home, sometimes my internet connect diseappears, and for a minute or two my computer does not recognize any of the wireless connection.
can please some one help me??? what is going on? is it the router? i mean, i dont think it is my pc since in school it runs fine!
please help! thanks!

Hello Andrea,

You may want to check with your ISP as it appears to be an issue from their end. However, it would be a good idea to run speedtest to determine the actual download and upload speed of your Internet connection. Close all applications including any firewalls, anti-virus software and access the link below to run speedtest.

If the Internet speed is fine and you are still facing issues, I would suggest you to test the system performance while in safe mode. All you need to do is restart the system and tap the F8 key at the Dell logo screen to launch Advanced Boot options menu. Then select “Safe Mode with Networking” and login.

If the system works fine while in safe mode, then you must try scanning your system for virus and also delete any junk files. You may also perform Disc cleanup and disc defragmentation.

After performing the above mentioned steps, you may download and run the below mentioned fixits and check if that does any good.

http://bit.ly/b27Ik3 - Reset Internet Explorer

http://bit.ly/TP97hE - Make Internet Explorer fast, safe and stable.

Hope this helps.

Thanks & Regards
