How much does SEO usually cost and how long should it take to get on page 1 for competitive phrases?
My domain/website is 3 months old. Our website is currently on page 7 of Google for a keyword phrase that gets about 74,000 local searches. Also, what is a reasonable amount to be paying for quality SEO services?

thanks

SEO is a natural process. It takes a lot of efforts from the optimizer to get the website right at the top of the page.
It normally takes 3 to 4 months to get you website to the 3 or 2 page from the 7 th page and then further 2 to 3 months to get it to the first page atleast....SEO can be done at as low as 20,000 INR or 500 USD but I believe that will be basic ERY BASIC SEO.For you to get the result and your optimizer to get some interest 1000 USD to 1200USD every month for 6 months should be good.

You should be able to find a good search engine marketing plan for under $1000 a month, not including a setup fee. SEO campaigns generally take several months to take affect, while PPC online marketing — the sponsored ads that appear on the first page — can give a positive ROI in 6 weeks.

There are a couple of shortcuts for getting on the front page:

-Video marketing: Videos show up before links on Google search results. Video SEO is quite the emerging field.

-Press releases: Press releases get widely distributed, so your keyword-rich headlines can wind up occupying multiple front page positions. They also show up on Google News.

There may be 74,000 local searches but what is the competition like for your keyword. if it's high you will struggle to get ranked. Check that out by typing your keyword in inverted commas into Google search engine and see how many competitors you have. If that's more than 30,000 it gets tough to beat.

Honestly there is no need to pay for SEO. You can do it yourself for free with a little effort.

There is SEO on page and SEO off page. SEO on page counts for about 20-30% of your ranking and includes things like, your keywords in your URL, Page titles, Meta tags etc.

Off page means a thing called back links. For example linking to your website from another website, article, forum, blog etc Think of it like this. If Google thinks you are popular with relevant links then u quickly move up the ranking

Hi Cliff,
Unfortunately there is no set answer to your question of how much you should be paying, without knowing a lot more info. I know that sucks, but it's the truth. Anyone telling you otherwise is really just guessing - or is quoting for an amount of work that may or may not get you ranked successfully.

When I do SEO work, if I have a serious enquiry before I quote anyone I need to know their exact website and the keywords they are targeting. I will then do the following:
1) Check where the site is ranking currently for the main keywords.
1) Complete an analysis of what is wrong/right with the customers website than can be fixed easily.
2) Complete an analysis of keyword density and many other on page factors of the site, compared to the the top 10 sites in Google for that keyword.
3) Do a brief check of the amount and quality of incoming links to the site
4) Repeat for the top few results in Google, to see what their link profiles are like in terms of quality/quantity.

Only once the above or a variation of it is completed will an SEO specialist actually know how competitive the keyword is and the quality of the competition they are trying to beat (amount of searches has little to do with it). Once you know that, you can work out how much work has to be done and how much time/effort that will take.

A reasonable amount (as you mentioned) will depend on all of the above. In some really competitive niches like hotels for example, some of the top sites actually employ TEAMS of people, working FULL TIME on their SEO. If our niche is that competitive, you will have a tough time, and someone quoting say $1000 a month (which may sound like a lot) will have no chance of getting your site ranked. On the other hand, depending on the compeition, this may be plenty or even a lot more than you need to pay.

Sorry this isn't an exact answer, but hope it helps.

Matt

Usually cost about 250 dollars per month, and it will take 3 months to reach the first page.

Prices for SEO are very inconsistent, but you usually get what you pay for.
There are many people offering "SEO" services that guarantee overnight top ranking for very little money. Stay away from those as they are usually either a total scam, or they use tactics which may hurt your rank, and will make your site look less reputable.

Good quality SEO will cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars for basic services to several thousand dollars for thorough optimization and promotion.

Good SEO takes time. If your site has been online for a few months and isn't ranking very well, some basic SEO can help move it up pretty quickly - maybe as quickly as a week or two. If the site is brand new, it may take a few months to see results.
