Eudora 7.1 - cannot collect Yahoo email?
This isn't a question - I'm just leaving a solution others may find useful.

Over the past few weeks, I've found I cannot collect mail from pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk.
I got "could not connect to "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk". Cause: connection timed out (10060)

Hours of research and changing settings seems to indicate Yahoo have changed their server settings and now require SSL use. Nice of them to let us know.... >:-o

These are the changes I made to Eudora 7.1 to enable me to get my Yahoo mail:

1. You first need to check the ports currently used by Eudora:
- add an extra function to the Eudora Tools/Options menu to do this
- Close Eudora
- find your Qualcomm/Eudora/extrastuff folder
- move the file esoteric.epi out from there into the Qualcomm/Eudora folder
- Reopen Eudora, go to Tools/Options - you will see new categories at the bottom of list, including Ports

2. The POP port needs to be 995 for the personality you use to get Yahoo mail:
- If the POP port is not 995 (usually 110) DO NOT change it in the Options menu - you may mess it up for other personalities
- You only want to change it for your specific personality
- To do this, you need to edit your eudora.ini file (take a copy first)

3. Open eudora.ini
- search for [Persona-name], where name is your specific personality
- Find the Popserver entry below that - this should be pop.mail.yahoo.com (no longer "co.uk")
- Insert a new line with the entry
PopPort=995
- close and save the file

4. Reopen Eudora
- Edit the properties for your personality
- Under Generic Properties
The User Name must now be set to the same as your Email Address
Tick "Use submission port (587)"
Secure Sockets when sending is set to "Never" (at least for my ISP)
- Under Incoming Mail
The server is pop.mail.yahoo.com
The authentication style is Passwords
Secure Sockets when Receiving is set to "Required, Alternate Port"
Click OK

Now you should be able to receive Yahoo mail again.

I hope this works for you too.

1000 thanks - it works
I faced some days ago same issue, but until today, I hadn't time to go in deep.
I knew the trick with "esoteric.epi", but didn't knew the trick with persona-specific setting in "Eudora.ini"
Thank you once again and...

Happy New Year 2014
