How do I connect with people around the world other than Facebook?
I've always been a fan of having a pen pal although I've never done it. How do I find "a pen pal", or something of the sort

Try http://www.postcrossing.com. You send postcards around the world and get a postcard back. You never know where you'll be assigned to send your postcard and you also don't know where you'll get a postcard from! It's pretty exciting and you can edit your profile to let people know what things you're interested in so they send you postcards of things that you like. Hope this helps!
