Question for people who understand Twitter very well..?

When someone I guess uses your name in a tweet.. for example I would say hey @tylerperry what's up? If they are not following me and it doesn't show up on their home screen, how do they know I have used their name? I see celebrities tweet their fans back all the time, but they are not following them. How does this happen?

hi there they normally use things like DM or direct messages, that's an easy way to a message to the person you want, its also a secure way to get a message through to someone, you can also search their name and DM them from there IE you don't have to follow them.
