Without doubt, Google Chrome

Google chrome separates its processes into different groups while safari uses one. If you are asking better as in speed/performance, go with Google chrome because it is a lighter load on the RAM.In my opinion, chrome also looks better.

Well on PC Chrome is a hell of a lot better than Safari but maybe things are different with a mac OS. In my opinion they're quite similar but on windows 7 chrome just looks nicer and runs better. I have the quick start page as my default page which is really useful too.

I've never heard of Safari, I use firefox at home because it uses WAY less download than Explorer.
If either of these is better than firefox for speed and limiting unnecessary download, I'm game.

I've used both browsers on both OS X and Windows 7. Chrome is better on both platforms. Safari has become a beachball-happy, laggy mess in OS X. Chrome runs just fine. Safari actually runs better in Windows, but Chrome still beats it overall.

As someone said before, Chrome makes every tab/window its own process, which means if a page locks up, it doesn't tank your whole browser. Very nice feature.
