Why does my laptop keep exiting search bars, full screens and games?

Whenever I am typing on google, a website or even Word Documents, after a couple characters have been hit, it keeps exiting the search bar. When this happens, I have to click on the screen or search bar to continue typing. I notice the border faded slightly when this happens as if the laptop doesn't realise which window I am on. I use Google Chrome by the way. Also, when I watch videos in full screen, it exits after around 2 minutes, sometimes less. Same thing happens when I play games like Need For Speed World. I've been told it could be a plug-in but I'm still not sure. Please help as this has been happening for the past couple months and it is on my nerves. Thanks a ton!
