Kevin hit it on the head.

Internet = Interconnection (inter) of networks (net).
Basically everything expands on top of one another. and a web is formed.

www = World Wide Web.
Basically Web services that lives on the internet. built for your web browser to access access.

Difference:

I can print to my home printer from my office computer over the internet.
List of some internet protocols:
www/http
VPN
telnet
RDP

I can view my webcam at home from any internet browser by going to a website.
Most web services are not even popular unless you do web API: JSON & XML to name the small few.
The Web or WWW was built for sharing information across a global scale to different machines (kernels) to support interoperable support. So regardless of the computer your using all information (data) Is presented across the network (internet).

The Internet and the World Wide Web have a whole-to-part relationship. The Internet is the large container, and the Web is a part within the container. It is common in daily conversation to abbreviate them as the "Net" and the "Web", and then swap the words interchangeably. But to be technically precise, the Net is the restaurant, and the Web is the most popular dish on the menu.

The Internet has become so ubiquitous it's hard to imagine life without it. It's equally hard to imagine a world where "www" isn't the prefix of many of our online activities. But just because the Internet and the World Wide Web are firmly intertwined with each other, it doesn't mean they're synonymous.

The World Wide Web (WWW) is one set of software services running on the Internet. The Internet itself is a global, interconnected network of computing devices. This network supports a wide variety of interactions and communications between its devices. The World Wide Web is a subset of these interactions and supports websites and URIs.

The internet is described as a wide area network that links many computers all over the world. Internet is the interconnection (network) of computers all over the world. World Wide Web is a collection of multimedia services and information accessible via the internet. The World wide web is part of the internet.
